Ford opens the festivities and celebration for the Mustang's 45th birthday.
05-17-08:Ford is dialing up the heat for the Mustang’s 45th Anniversary this week as production of the 2009 Mustang model year is set to begin. One of the small touches that will signal the birthday year is the 45th Anniversary badge that will be installed on most of the 2009 Mustangs. With the exception of special edition models such as the Shelbys, Bullitt, and Warriors In Pink, this new “horse-shoe” and pony emblem will be found on the front fenders .
The 45th Anniversary logo is the first use of a horse-shoe for Mustang’s emblem since the 20th Anniversary in 1984. This is has a more expensive and crafted look thanks to the design prowess of Team Mustang. It is pretty striking and continues the themes that have come before it with the 35th and 40th anniversary emblems that were placed on 1999 and 2004 Mustangs.
Of course it begs the question. Will Ford present us with a limited run “45th Anniversary” Mustang such as they did in 1999 and 2004? In 2004, a 40th Anniversary package came with sand colored stripes and a special metallic red paint scheme. The 1999 35th Anniversary edition Mustang had many special features that included unique interior trim, seating surfaces and exterior treatments. So we can only hope that Ford has an option package coming for 2009, even if it is a combination of stripes and color.
The 2009 model year will be abbreviated however with a refreshed 2010 Mustang due to show up about this time next year. So between now and then the celebration of Mustang’s 45th year is going to get hotter and hotter. Ford is working with the Mustang Club Of America to put on a huge national anniversary show in Birmingham, AL next April. To be held at Barber Motorsports Park, the event is planned to have up to 6000 Mustangs in attendance with several activities planned over the 3-day event.
As in past anniversaries, Mustangs Across America is already busy at planning the cross-country Mustang road trip adventure that brings cars from all over the United States on the road together to attend the big MCA 45th Anniversary Show. If early registration is any indication, the 45th Anniversary Drive is going to be huge, as over 150 cars have already registered for the trip just under a year away.
When you combine these events and the many others planned in the coming year, 2009 is going to be another milestone year for Mustang. Ford is already setting the stage, and the Mustang faithful are lining up for the show.
