Los Angeles Auto Show: 2010 Mustang Takes Center Stage

Staff Report

Los Angeles is Mustang Country now!

11-21-08: The Los Angeles International Auto Show is the center of the Mustang universe this week as Ford chose this venue to debut the all new 2010 model. As the doors to the show open to the public today people will soon find that the new Mustang owns this show. Sure there are all the new “green” cars that make people feel responsible. But our bet is that the Mustang gets all the attention of show goers.

Ford has strong presence at the event with several new models including the 2010 Mustang, Fusion, Fusion Hybrid, Mercury Milan and Lincoln MKZ. And of course we will be telling you all about those other cars too, but Mustang has its own compound within the Ford booth.

Several new variations of the 2010 Mustang are on display including V6 and GT coupes and convertibles. It is a wonderland to the Mustang senses and encourages you to stay and play. The theatric experience includes interactive displays that allow you to see and feel different aspects of the new 2010 Mustang from inside to underneath.

More importantly there is the section of the display called the Mustang Garage. The Mustang Garage area features three computers for show visitors to use to create their ideal Mustang with accessories from Ford Vehicle Personalization. Available accessories include wheels, stripes, spoilers, hood scoops and side scoops – all in a variety of colors and finishes.

“Nobody has done this before with a new vehicle as popular as Mustang,” said Mark Conforzi, chief designer, Vehicle Personalization.

A design will be selected every hour, and a car will be built in front of the crowd to show exactly what the customer designed. Members from Galpin Auto Sports, best known for Pimp My Ride, will install the customers’ choice accessories on one V-6 convertible and one Mustang GT coupe. Once the car is complete, the newly customized Mustang and the proud designer will have their picture taken together.

“It’s the first opportunity where we can show the world we have this great new Mustang coming out, and we are offering a lot of new accessories with it,” said Conforzi. Conforzi sees a definite trend in what customers want.

With that in mind, several unique finishes are offered on five wheels – black chrome, gunmetal gray powder coat, satin gold, chrome and high-gloss metallic white. Other accessories, like hood and side scoops, spoilers and the like will be available in silver, black or body color – plus a carbon fiber package.

Each of the 43 accessories to be offered for the 2010 Mustang are on display in the Mustang Garage exhibit, giving visitors a clear idea of all the accessories they can leverage to make the new Mustang their very own.

Ford Racing got in on the action as well by showing off a whole new line of parts they have in store for the new 2010 Mustang. A static display of a new Mustang is hanging seemingly in space on a rotisserie that showcases many of these parts.

“Mustang is more than a car – it’s a way of life. No two Mustangs are alike because Mustang is the most customized and modified car in America,” said Brian Wolfe, Ford Racing Technology director. “Whether it’s drag racing, road racing, drifting, club events or just a daily driver, we at Ford help enthusiasts create their own ‘my Mustang’ story.”

While Ford and the rest of the auto industry are facing so pretty tough challenges at the moment they have done a great job at putting their best foot forward. GM and Chrysler didn’t hold any new debuts at the show this week, while Ford pressed ahead with the 2010 Mustang and the other cars mentioned. They made sure that Ford owners, enthusiasts, and fans got the signal that they count.

Now we are looking forward to the Detroit Auto Show in January where we are told the new 2010 Shelby GT-500 will be shown for the first time.
