Products: Edelbrock Pro-Flo2 Port Fuel Injection Conversion

Staff Report

Convert your small-block or big-block Mustang to EFI

05-10-09: If you have a pre-1986 Mustang with a carburetor Edelbrocks's new Pro-Flo2 second generation fully-sequential port EFI system might just be worth a look. The system includes an all-new, powerful electronics package that includes everything you need to convert a carbureted engine to a modern fuel injection system.

The Pro-Flo2 is available for both the small-block 289/302 Ford as well as the big-block FE series which includes the vintage 390 and 428 engines. Edelbrock claims the systems will inprove horsepower, efficiency, drivability, and clean up your exhaust emmissions all at the same time. Having owned a 1967 GT 390 FE Mustang I would have given my first born to have a system like this to modernize the driving experience and make cold start hassles a thing of the past.

Starting with a new "flash-programmable" engine control unit (ECU) powered by EFI Technology, the Pro-Flo2 allows for more tuning features, fully sequential injector firing and limitless calibrations in a compact package. You get the choice of using the Edelbrock hand-held calibration module or your laptop to tune Included are base calibrations for your Ford engine. A narrow band O2 sensor is included and is also wide-band 02 compatible (wide band O2 not included).

This is a substantial package that almost amounts to a sex change for your car. Included is a hot looking aluminum intake manifold, throttle body assembly, billet fuel rails, 29lb fuel injectors, all sensors, wiring harness, ecu, hand-held calibration module, software, brackets and attaching hardware. There is also an MSD Pro-Billet distributor for a complete electronicly controlled system. It's all there.

The small-block and big-block set up is good for up to 450hp without further fuel system modifications. Your actuall horsepower may vary, but Edelbrock claims an easy 395hp with a 302 equipped with a selection of Edelbrock Performer items.

Installation is a snap because most of the system is pre-assembled. The complete intake manifold assembly is ready to bolt on out of the box. The fuel injectors, fuel rails, air valve and throttle sensor, fuel pressure regulator, idle air control, PCV port are all put together already.

Tuning is limitless from choosing base calibrations or creating your own. Pro-Flo2 allows unlimited custom tuning and enhanced tuning resolution of fuel and spark map via a laptop computer with the included Pro-Flo2 PC based software. You can tune, save and restore as many custom calibrations as you desire.
