05-06-09: The press and owners alike have praised the 2007 to current Ford Shelby GT-500 for its straight line power. But when it comes down to handling, most say that it is “a cruiser”, which is a nice way of saying it does not handle like a 500+ horsepower car.
Our friends at Griggs Racing have come to the rescue with their new SS Suspension Kit for the 2007 to current GT-500. The Griggs Racing SS Kit is focused on the rear suspension because that’s where the S197 chassis really falls short.

Absolutely killing the GT500’s inherent wheel hop when launched, the kit includes Koni Coil-Overs, Panhard bar or optional Watts link and/or rear anti-roll bar, relocated rear lower control arms, the venerable GR40 TorqueArm Kit. It seems like a lot of hardware, but this is a 500+ hp supercar right?
These race-bred Griggs components replace many of the stock S197 rear suspension components, and can be installed in an afternoon with little welding and basic tools. All necessary hardware and instructions are included with their package.
While most of the gain in grip will come from the rear modifications, Griggs Racing’s Koni Coil-Over struts and urethane bushings for the front suspension will put total balance and jounce control into your GT-500. With adjustable camber/caster, ride height and damping rates, this easy changeover will enhance steering feel and turn-in, making you a much better driver on and off the track.
If you are attacking your GT500’s suspension in stages, the addition of the GR Short/Long Arm (SLA) front suspension package will correct the factory front-end geometry turning your Shelby or S197 into the track car to beat.
